Individual successes are celebrated in Lower Primary (Monday) and Upper Primary (Thursday) virtual assemblies. In this section of the newsletter, we will mention children who have done well in school organised competitions or external competitions entered by the school. Any questions about how best to manage Seesaw for your child please remember to email This email address is being protected from spambots. So from Monday, morning activities from the last week may no longer be available to respond to (you will not lose your child’s responses or any of the work in their folder). This does give those that have chatted to the teacher about an extension (as they need the weekend to finish to work) time to do this. To help remove clutter from the teachers’ view of Seesaw teachers may be archiving activities from the last week at the start of each week. Moving forward your child should also receive a message on Seesaw on the day of their birthday. Next week Lower Primary assembly will be posted on Seesaw on Monday for Y1 – Y3 children and Upper Primary assembly will be posted on a Thursday for Y4 – Y6 children and it is at this time that we will celebrate birthdays. Any concerns or questions should be addressed via email – teachers will be checking email at key times in the day. For example PE and Chore charts should be uploaded on a Friday only as this is the day the staff looking at them will access them - and if there are lots of entries for one child that may have built up over the week it makes it difficult for them to feedback on all of them.Īlso one thing that I think a few may have missed in the pile of paperwork that went out at the start of this process (and I know there was a lot so it is not surprising) - please be aware that Seesaw should not be used as a way for parents to communicate with teachers (outside of helping a child respond to a task in Lower Primary) – it is a very public forum and with the number of posts the teachers get to see a key question posted by a parent could be missed as their priority on Seesaw is to look at the work and feedback on this. Once this has been addressed, if you still find that your child is completing all tasks on the schedule to the standard expected, and the teacher is happy with what your child is doing then please reach out to me and we can set some extra tasks for those that may need this.Īs we move into the second week of remote learning could you please help your children to ensure that they upload tasks as requested. Currently, we recommend returning work once, but we are aware that some children may need more ‘nudging’ than others. If the teacher agrees that the quality and depth of work your child is producing could be better, then he/she can support you with this by returning work that could be done to a higher standard. It may help your child to have a physical schedule up so they can tick off items and maybe note next to each item how long they worked on it for. With regards to time spent on activities each day I would strongly suggest that if you are worried that your child may be rushing through tasks and seems to be finishing all of the expectations on the schedule very quickly you should reach out to his/her teacher to get feedback on the quality of work your child is submitting and also clarify exactly what daily expectations are. We are aware that as the saying goes ‘You can’t please all of the people all of the time.’ We believe that by the end of next week we will have an age appropriate balance with regards to this, and of course we will continue to review our approach, especially (in a worst case scenario) if it looks like remote learning may be something we have to do for a prolonged period of time. Knowing the very different realities that exist out there for our parent body I am sure that for some of you there won’t be enough live sessions whilst for others there will be too many. We want to manage a balance between activities that are flexible in regards to when they can be completed and the chance to talk and share learning and experiences live. This time around we have aimed to increase the amount of live sessions for each year group, keeping in mind that this in itself can create extra challenges for some families sharing devices or parents not always available to help a child join a meeting at the right time (an issue for our younger students mostly). As we reach the end of our first week of remote learning for this academic year I have to say I am very impressed with the application students have shown and the support parents have given the teachers and their child as we all do our best to keep learning moving forward.
